5 Reasons You May Need a Generator

Electricity powers almost everything in the modern world including computers, lights, and the HVAC system in your facility. When the power goes out, every minute without power is lost money. Lee Contracting can minimize your downtime with our rental generator fleet or with the installation of a permanent transfer switch. Sometimes you will know when you will need generator power, and other times you will be surprised with a power outage. Below are five scenarios in which you may need generator power.

  1. WHEN THE POWER GOES OUT

Every now and then the power between the municipal source and your facility may be affected. Maybe a line blew down in a storm or an old tree branch fell on the line. These types of scenarios are unforeseeable and uncontrollable. Having a backup generator will help to minimize your facility’s downtime.

  1. WHEN YOU NEED MORE POWER

Sometimes, during certain times of year, you may require more power than usual. When this happens, a standby generator can help to boost your power supply and provide the extra electricity needed for your processes or events.

  1. WHEN THE GRID NEEDS MORE POWER

If your facility is in an area that has rolling black or brownouts, a backup generator could help you to survive these downtimes without sacrificing production during these temporary power outages.

REPAIRING YOUR SUBSTATION

  1. WHILE REPAIRING YOUR SUBSTATION

Your company’s internal substation and electrical equipment needs maintenance and upgrades like any other piece of equipment. If you can’t afford to shut down during repair times a temporary power solution is the perfect answer. When your substation is down for repairs, a rental generator can keep your business up and running.

  1. IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

The above reasons are just some of the most common reasons as to why you might need a rental generator. The last thing your business needs is to find itself in the dark, losing money without a plan. Make sure you know where and how to get an emergency rental generator before an emergency occurs.

Lee Contracting’s emergency generator service is available 24/7, 365 days a year. Our crews respond to your emergency fast and many times we can have your facility back up and running within 3 hours. Lee Contracting Celebrates ‘Take Your Child to Work Day’

Since 1992, employers have participated in Take Our Daughters to Work Day. In 2003, the day was expanded to include boys and became known as Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. This day is a chance to show kids “the value of their education,” and to help them “discover the power and possibilities associated with a balanced work and family life.”

This years’ event was hosted on Thursday, April 26, 2018. Lee Contracting had over 20 kids participating in the day. The day started with a snack and a speech from our Operations Manager, Andy Keilman. The kids had a chance to hear how important their parents are to Lee Contracting.

The kids were then taken on a guided tour of our facility and were able to see some of our in-house equipment up close and personal. During the tour, there were stops in each of our different departments to talk about the equipment they use and the type of work they perform for our customers.

After lunch, the kids were given cardboard blocks and a blueprint of a stamping press and feed line. They had to work together to build the line.

After working hard on building the press and feed line, the kids had some well-deserved downtime to play on the football field at Wisner Stadium and finished their day with snow cones.

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day was a success and a hit with the kids. We look forward to next year’s event.

8 Benefits of Automating Manufacturing Processes

Automation of the manufacturing process can help a business to achieve high levels of productivity and efficiency while increasing product quality and profits. Automated manufacturing systems require little or no human participation to operate. These systems often perform the operations of assembling, processing, inspection, or handling of materials.

Here are 8 reasons why a company should consider implementing automation into their manufacturing process:

lee contracting safety gear

1. Increased Workplace Safety

Transferring some dangerous tasks to automated machines can make the workplace safer. Since the Occupational Safety and Health Act was signed into law in 1970, the safety and health of employees has become a priority. Automation has made the workplace safer for employees.

2. Reduced Labor Cost
Investing in automation can help to replace manual operations and thus, reduce increasing labor costs.

3. Increased Labor Productivity
Automated systems can perform tasks more efficiently than manual operations. Manufacturing process automation increases labor productivity and the total rate of production.

4. Reduced Manual Tasks
Automation can reduce several operations that are repetitive, tiring or boring for employees.

5. Accomplish Impossible Manual Tasks
There are certain manufacturing operations and processes that are not possible without the involvement of machines. Examples include rapid prototyping through graphic modeling, making of complex surfaces with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) or numerical controlled systems and integrated fabrication of circuits. These processes have special requirements for miniaturization, accuracy and geometry that are impossible to achieve manually.

6. Enhanced Product Quality
Automation reduces the fraction defect rate and automated operations are performed with greater conformity and uniformity.

Robotics

7. Avoid Higher Costs of Not Automating
Automation benefits can lead to higher sales, better quality, improved productivity, a better bottom line due to higher efficiencies and a better company image. Companies that do not implement automation may find themselves lagging behind their competition who have chosen to automate.

8. Reduced Manufacturing Lead Time
Automation helps to reduce the elapsed time between the order of the customer and product delivery.

Industrial Foundations

The concrete floors in your facility take a beating every day. Excessive foot traffic, forklifts and vibration from heavy machinery operation can lead to an expedited deterioration of your floors. There are a few steps you can take to minimize the damage done to your floors and extend its lifespan.

Inspect Your Floors

Like every other tool and piece of equipment, you should perform a regular inspection of the floor and foundation around your equipment. Cracks and spalls in the floor can develop quickly and knowing when the damage began can help you identify the cause and make a repair. If left alone and the damage isn’t addressed, it can quickly get worse and the surrounding area will follow suit.

Install Isolation Pads

To protect your machinery and its foundation, you can have isolation pads installed. Isolation pads absorb the impact of the machinery operation by transferring one large impact force into a few smaller impact forces. This lessens the wear-and-tear on not only the foundation but also on the equipment.

Increases in construction spending and growing demand for alternative energy sources will drive demand for electricians. Many people choose to become an electrician because of the training, the pay and the benefits.

Apprenticeship Program

The path to becoming an electrician is through an apprenticeship program. After graduating high school or obtaining a GED, the apprenticeship program will have you working on actual job sites while learning the skills needed to become an electrician. Most times, the contractor your work for will pay for the apprenticeship program, eliminating thousands of dollars in student loan debt.

Great Pay

In the state of Michigan, the mean annual wage for electricians in 2016 was $56,600. Of course, this number can be increased with specialized training. After beginning your career as an electrician, promotions can include electrical engineer, cost estimator, electrical design engineer, and even master electrician.
